What can I do?

So with elections around the corner, all political parties are doing what they are good at - Making Promises. I wonder if they even remember what they had promised last elections. Also its so funny that some people are being fooled so easily with short-term freebies like a 1000 bucks or a free sari or even worse- a bottle of liquor . When will people realise the importance of a vote. Most don't vote saying only corrupt politicians will come to power no matter what. Hmm i don't think they will ever realize that "Bad politicians are chosen by good people, who fail to vote ". How many are aware of Section 49-o ? Recently , mails were going around with the following content :

Did you know that there is a system in our constitution, as per the 1969 act, in section "49-O" that a person can go to the polling booth, confirm his identity, get his finger marked and convey the presiding election officer that he doesn't want to vote anyone!Yes such a feature is available, but obviously these seemingly notorious leaders have never disclosed it. This is called "49-O". Why should you go and say "I VOTE NOBODY"… because, in a ward, if a candidate wins, say by 123 votes, and that Particular ward has received "49-O" votes more than 123, then that polling will be cancelled and will have to be re-polled. Not only that, but the candidature of the contestants will be removed and they cannot contest the re-polling, since people had already expressed their decision on them. This would bring fear into parties and hence look for genuine candidates for their parties for election. This would change the way; of our whole political system… it is seemingly surprising why the election commission has not revealed such a feature to the public.

Even i like everyone believed it without verifying the authenticity of the content. But after googling i found that it was an incorrect information. Wiki says ,"It describes the procedure to be followed when a valid voter decides not to cast his vote, and decides to record this fact. The apparent purpose of this section is to prevent the election fraud or the misuse of votes. "

So even 49-o is not an option for those people (me too :) )who were fed up with corrupt politicians . Why would i stand in a line for 2 hrs and then say i don want to vote. If i don't vote , then too corrupt politicians will get elected. So What can i do??

Sometimes this makes me think that I should jump into politics. :) . Nahh am lazy.. i wont make a good politician too. The nation needs people who are totally dedicated to the development of the country. But in this current scenario , who will even enter politics. Every parents want their kids to be a doctor or engineer. As a result only politicians kith & kin become politicians. Will this ever change.??Well there is just a possibilty.

At present what can i do??? The only thing i can think of is vote for a change. Why vote for the same faces again and again. Why not vote someone who has never had the chance to do? Well this thought holds good if i am voting for assembly elections. But for national election, I ,voting for a regional party won't do any good. Its very clear that in a coalition government, the Prime Minister won't have a free hand. All of his decisions will be influenced by his allies. Most of the time will be spent to please the allies as to increase their vote-base rather than taking concrete decisions. So should Multi-party system be replaced with two-party system. Well the answer will be Yes and No.Yes -because then goverment can run efficiently for 5 yrs like how it used to run after our independence. No -because Multi-party system gives representations to groups which are different in beliefs/castes etc. But if these groupism and casteism were abolished.. Would there be any need ? :) But this too is again a distant dream.

So what can I do???

Just pray for a miracle that someday politicians will be free of corruption :)
